What a fun episode of Next on the Tee. which my guests Michael Whelan, Andy Lano II, and Kip Henley.
Michael Whelan was the original VP of Production and Executive Producer on The Golf Channel. He talks about starting the channel from the ground up; how he sketched out each show, what the vision behind those shows was, and then hiring the right people to make those shows come to life.
Andy Lano shared his insights and perspective as a former Tour Caddie on Covid-19 and if he were still out on Tour what concerns he'd have. He also shares his thoughts on what course designers and Superintendents will need to do in order to combat the yardage explosion that continues to see guys routinely hit nearly 350-400 yards. We also hear about his company Golf Mastery that helps players of all levels learn about strategy, course management, and the mental side of the game.
I round out the show talking with PGA Tour Caddie Kip Henley. Kip is one of the great follows on Twitter @kiphenley. He is currently looping for Stewart Cink out on the PGA Tour. He gave great insights into the incredible lengths the PGA Tour is going to in order to keep the players and the caddies safe. He also talks about what it's like caddying at The Masters, what his favorite foreign country is to caddie in (Alabama), staying away from any negative comments when discussing a shot with his player, and the beauty of the McLemore course outside of Chattanooga.
