On this episode of Next on the Tee I'm joined by legendary Broadcaster Ben Wright, Golf Academy Lead Instructor Brian Jacobs, and SuperSpeed Golf Co-Founder and President Mike Napoleon.
Ben Wright shared his thoughts on the US Open, the Open Championship and looked ahead to the PGA Championship. We talked about his memory of the 1965 US Open which Gary Player won in a playoff. It was held at Bellerive Country Club site of this year's PGA. He shared his memory of the 1992 PGA Championship, which he helped broadcast, and was also held at Bellerive. We also talked about Tigermania and the disservice the media does to the other players because they are so focused on Tiger. He said the media has never been so focused on any of the other great players like they are on Tiger. He added that Ben Hogan's comeback to win several majors following the car accident that nearly killed him far surpasses the comeback Tiger has made.
Brian Jacobs shared his method of teaching junior golfers including assessing their goals and how he goes about making the game fun so they stay excited and engaged. He also talked about how to generate more club head speed plus fix one of our common swing path errors of coming over the top and pull hooking the ball.
Mike Napoleon is the Co-Founder and President of SuperSpeed Golf. Their SuperSpeed program is designed to help us generate more club head speed. Mike took us through the products and practice protocols that can help add 5+ MPH to your club head which equates to more distance.
 

Ben Hogan Golf CEO Scott White joins me and talks about the rejuvenation of the brand and how overwhelming the demand has become for Ben Hogan irons. Scott takes us through their iron sets so you know which one is right for your game and gives us a peak under the tent to hear what new products are on the horizon. Rees Jones, World Renowned Golf Course Designer & Architect, talks about the work he did renovating Bellerive Country Club, site of this year's PGA Championship, back in the mid 2000s. The course was originally designed by his father Robert Trent Jones in the late 1950's and opened in 1960. It became the youngest course to host a US Open which was won by Gary Player in 1965. Rees talks about the course layout and what it will take to win this year's PGA Championship on this segment of Next on the Tee.

He helps us understand the type of player who will be successful there and the changes he made to the course. He also updated us on the other projects he's working on.

Legendary Golf Club Designer Jesse Ortiz talks about designing and building metal woods and hybrids for Bobby Jones Golf. He also talks about the weight of living up to the reputation of Bobby Jones as he designs clubs that carry that name. PGA Professional Joe Grohman talks about the racism he witnessed a young Tiger Woods face at the Navy Golf Course in Seal Beach, California. Joe teamed with Tiger in amateur events as well. He also shared a couple of playing lessons for how to putt bermuda greens plus how to hit better tee shots into a stiff head wind.

Top Instructor Rob Strano goes off on the USGA and how they handled the US Open and the set up of Shinnecock Hills. He talks about how they are an amateur organization trying to run a professional event and keep failing miserably. He believes they should answer to a review board because today, they don't answer to anyone; so no one is accountable when things go wrong like they have in so many cases over the last 4-5 years. Hear his comments and suggestions for what needs to be done so it doesn't happen again next year at Pebble Beach.
